2010 STAMFORD LEGION BASEBALL
2010 ENDS IN SWEET 16 FOR JUNIOR AND SENIOR TEAMS
The Stamford Senior Legion Team finished the 2010 season with a 20-16 record and a deep run into the state tournament that landed it in the sweet 16. Stamford knocked off perennial power Simsbury in the second round, followed by a stunning 1-0 road win at West Hartford in the third round. On Saturday, Stamford, the #16 seed knocked off #1 RCP 2-1 in 11 innings. Frank Spoto's infield single drove in the winning run to back the dominant pitching of Chris Neuscheler. Stamford's tournament dreams were ended by back to back one-run losses to New London and Bristol on Sunday and Monday.
The Junior Legion team finished a tremendous season on Sunday with a record of 26-7. After finishing second in Zone 4 play, Stamford went 1-1 in tournament play including Saturday's 4-0 win over visiting Moosup. Trey Pizzutello's complete game shutout led the way. Westbrook eliminated the 17&U team on Sunday, winning 7-3 in a game played in Deep River, CT.
PREP TEAM TO OPEN STATE TOURNAMENT PLAY THURSDAY NIGHT
On Thursday night at 5:30 PM, the Stamford Legion Prep Team will travel to Waterbury to begin play in the double elimination tournament at Waterville Park. Win or lose, the team will return to action on Friday at 11:00 AM. The Prep team enters Thursday's state game coming off of a combined no-hitter vs. Greenwich en route to a 6-0 victory.
JUNIOR TEAM ENTERS WEEKEND TIED FOR FIRST PLACE
Heading into this weekend's series' with Bridgeport and Fairfield, the Junior Team is tied for first place in the zone with Greenwich at 14-4. Stamford travels to Bridgeport's Seaside Park for a 5:30 PM game on Friday and then hosts Bridgeport for a morning affair Saturday at Cubeta Stadium.
DALTON ABEL THROWS PERFECT GAME!
On Saturday, Dalton Abel put the Prep Team on his back and pitched a perfect game. The "perfecto" was the story during Stamford's 11-0 win at Wallingford. In the second game, Jackson Solis did his best Dalton Abel / Hero impersonation by driving in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. The Prep Team improved to 22-2 in league play.
STAMFORD LEGION TEAMS COMBINE TO GO 5-0 ON SUNDAY 6/13
On what will turn out to be one of the more memorable Sunday's in the history of the program, all three of our teams posted wins and went a combined 5-0. The Prep Team swept a doubleheader from Guilford by scores of 11-0 and 2-1. The Junior Team swept a road doubleheader from Trumbull by scores of 7-1 and 5-3. And finally, the Senior Team knocked off Trumbull at Cubeta 7-3. All three teams return to action tonight. The Senior and Junior teams play host to Trumbull at Cubeta at 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM respectively, while the prep team plays a 5:30 home game at Westhill.
14&UNDER PREP TEAM REACHES MEMORIAL DAY WITH A 13-10 RECORD
Following a doubleheader sweep of Hamden, Stamford Legion Prep improved it's overall record to 13-10 on the heels of Memorial Day. More importantly, the team climbed to an unblemished 8-0 in Greater New Haven League play. In Saturday's first game, Ryan Lee pitched a complete game three-hitter backed by the spectacular defense of Dante Fargnoli. Cameron Curto, Taylor Purpura, and Dom Colarossi each contributed multiple hits and RBI's en route to the 9-0 win. In the second game, Jack Schwoerer tossed six innings of two-run ball and chipped in two RBI doubles of his own. Sean Urbano sparked the defensive effort in the 10-2 win. The Prep Team returns to action on Wednesday at Weston.

Please save the date - June 6, 2010. This will be our first ever family day at the Bennett Cancer Walk in downtown Stamford. The 5K race will be followed by a Stamford Legion Cookout. Our STAMFORD LEGION run/walk team will be meeting in front of Bobby V's at 8:30 AM on Sunday. Look for us there!

STAMFORD PREP GOES 1-2 IN FIRST EVER TRIP TO EARLY BIRD CLASSIC
Stamford loses to eventual tournament champion Trumbull Explosion 6-2, loses to the Bay State Grizzlies 13-5, and defeats the New Jersey Peligros 13-8. In the loss to rival Trumbull, Jimmy Corcoran was outstanding on the mound and Randy Polonia dazzled defensively at shortstop. Tyler Pingol, Jackson Solis, and Corcoran chipped in offensively with booming doubles. In the loss to Bay State, Dom Colarossi, Solis, and Polonia powered the offense. And in the win over New Jersey, Ryan Lee starred in relief by pitching five innings of one run baseball and helping his own cause with three hits. Cameron Elkins also had two run-scoring doubles to lead the offensive attack.
STAMFORD LEGION BASEBALL FACT OF THE DAY:
Did you know that when the Stamford Senior Legion Team makes it's way back to the Giansanti Tournament in South Windsor, CT. on June 18th, 19th, and 20th, it will be looking to defend it's back to back tournament titles? The 19&U Team has gone a combined 8-0 at the 2008 and 2009 tournaments. The Junior Team was on the way to capturing it's own tournament title last year when rain arrived and forced the suspension of the championship game. The game was never resumed.
